How is the per-person share calculated?

Bill amount + tip (if any) is divided by the number of people, then rounded up to the nearest whole rupee. The small rounding excess (less than ₹1 per person) keeps the share clean for UPI transfers — one person can pay slightly less to balance, or it acts as a small additional tip.

Should I tip in India?

Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory in India. A common range is ₹50–₹200 at casual restaurants and 5–15% of the bill at sit-down restaurants. Many bills already include a 'service charge' (usually 5–10%) — that's the restaurant's automatic tip. If service charge is on the bill, the tip is optional.

Is service charge the same as tip?

Effectively yes. Service charge is a restaurant-added gratuity that goes to the staff. The Department of Consumer Affairs (Government of India) has guidance that service charge is not mandatory and customers can request its removal. If your bill already includes service charge, leave the Tip field at ₹0 here — or add a small extra tip if the service was great.

Does the bill amount include GST?

Restaurants in India typically show: food + drinks subtotal, GST (5% for non-AC, 18% for AC restaurants in some states — check your bill), and optionally a service charge. Use the final GST-inclusive total as the 'Bill amount' here. Whether you tip on the pre-GST or inclusive amount is personal preference — just enter whichever total you want to split.
